About Me

Richard Jermain is a composer, sound designer, and performer. He uses experimental techniques to produce electronic sounds, which are processed using modular equipment, guitar pedals, acoustic feedback and more.

Every piece of electronics is built by hand and housed in reclaimed furniture or other found objects. A noteable piece of equipment combines electric guitar strings with a set of hand-wound electromagnets, which play the strings (without touching) through amplified synthesizer signals. No acoustic amplification is needed for this instrument, and it also requires “tuning” to the instrument live, since only frequencies of the strings will vibrate in harmony with the electronics. This approach is meant to reverse the standard approach in futurist-style electronica, where the machines force new results.
